In my experience of helping get homes sold quickly, staging is much more than just rearranging furniture or hanging art. Today’s buyers are very savvy. They have a discerning eye to what they’re buying. They are able to look beyond rented furniture and art. Buyers want their new home as move-in ready as possible. They are less willing to invest time and dollars into a home upon moving in, as they once were. This trend is especially pronounced in recessionary times. That’s why fresh paint, small repairs, replacing stained carpet, adding little perks like new cupboard knobs, or inexpensive light fixtures all matter.

Not a fan of rented furniture
I’m not keen on renting furnishings, unless absolutely essential. The cost to the buyer is very high, as is the added stress of having to find storage for existing furniture. I rarely see a good return on this strategy.

To modernize or refresh a space, I prefer to use existing furnishings and spruce up the home with appealing accessories - fresh bedding, new pillows, white towels, apothecary jars and trend florals. Items home sellers can take with them to enjoy. Much less money spent, and spent far better.
